Our tips for moving
Read our tips for moving your belongings below
Tip 1: Coding
It is wise to pack by room and label the boxes with the contents and the room number in your new home. Give each room in your new home a number. If desired, you can make a list with a detailed description of the contents of each box.
If possible, use the original boxes for equipment and make the necessary arrangements for your PC and CD players. Fill the boxes with newspaper, packing paper or blankets. Do not pack sharp objects with fragile items.
You can disconnect and reconnect the washing machine yourself; don’t forget to drain any residual water and secure the drum with the transport lock to prevent damage.
Tip 2: Pack fragile items properly
Packing dinnerware requires extra care and attention. We offer special wrapping paper that allows you to pack dinnerware safely and securely. Start by wrapping cutlery by rolling each piece individually in wrapping paper or newspaper. Fragile items such as glasses and cups should be carefully wrapped in wrapping paper. It is a good idea to wrap these fragile items together with softer items such as linens to provide extra protection.
Make sure to clearly label the boxes with stickers such as ‘FRAGILE’ or ‘GLASSWARE’ to indicate that the contents should be handled with care. Place heavier items, such as plates, at the bottom of the box to create a stable base. Very fragile glassware, such as wine glasses and bottles, should be placed upright in the box to prevent breakage.
Keep flammable and hazardous materials separate and never pack them together with your tableware. This will not only prevent damage to your fragile items, but will also ensure safety during transport. By following these steps, you can ensure that your tableware arrives undamaged at its new destination.
Tip 3: Distribute the weight of heavy goods
If you have a lot of heavy small items, such as books, to pack, it is important to take this into account. It is not wise to put all of these books in one moving box. Instead, you can use the books as the base of the box and put the lighter items on top to fill up the space.
It is best to pack books lying down to prevent damage to the spine. By laying them flat, you prevent the spine of the books from bending or tearing during transport. This keeps your books in good condition and you can enjoy them for a long time.
Also make sure that you do not make the moving boxes too heavy. It is better to use several smaller boxes for heavy goods, instead of one big heavy box. This way, moving becomes easier and you reduce the chance of damage to your belongings and yourself while lifting and moving the boxes. With these smart packing techniques, you can make your move efficient and worry-free.
Tip 4: clothing, rugs, curtains and lamps
If you want to move your clothes, you can use our special wardrobe boxes. These boxes are ideal for transporting your clothes without wrinkles and protecting them during the move. Simply hang your clothes in these wardrobe boxes, just like in a wardrobe. This prevents your clothes from getting wrinkled and saves you a lot of ironing when you arrive at your new location.
It is important not to fold your rugs as this can cause wrinkles. Instead, it is best to gently roll them up before placing them in the boxes. This way, your rugs will stay nice and neat during transport.
Don’t forget to pack your curtains and lamps carefully too. Remove the curtains from the rails and fold them neatly before putting them in a box. For the lamps, it is wise to remove them and place the lampshades upright in a box. Be careful when packing these items to prevent damage and ensure that everything arrives safely and undamaged at your new address. With these handy packing tips, you can make your move a lot easier and you can move on to your new home with peace of mind.
Tip 5: clocks, art and plants
When moving clocks, it is important to secure the pendulum in the case to prevent damage. This ensures that the clock remains stable during transport and prevents damage to the pendulum. For large clocks, as well as mirrors and paintings, it is advisable to have them packed by your professional mover. This way, you are assured of the best protection during your move and you can trust that your valuable items will arrive safely at their new destination.
Depending on the distance and duration of the move, you may want to consider taking your plants with you. Small plants can be placed together in a box for transport. It is important to protect the plants well during transport to prevent damage to the leaves and roots. By treating your plants with care during the move, you can ensure that they arrive healthy and well at their new home and that you can continue to enjoy their green splendor.
Tip 6: Valuables
It is wise not to leave keys in cupboards and desks during your move, as they can easily get lost among all your belongings. To ensure that your important items remain safe and close at hand during the move, it is advisable to keep keys, money, cheques, expensive jewellery and important papers in your hand luggage. This way, you will always have them within reach and you will not run the risk of losing them while moving your belongings.
It’s also a good idea to keep these valuable items separate from the rest of your belongings so that you can find them quickly once you arrive at your new home. Keeping them in a safe and accessible place can help you avoid the stress and frustration of unpacking and organizing your new living space. So take the time to carefully gather and organize all of your important items before you begin your move so that you can have a smooth transition into your new home.
